InStitchu's 2015 Winter Suit Guide

InStitchu proudly offers a wide range of fabric options from heavier wools in 290g/m down to 205g/m in a range of super's along with wool/linen blends. We offer this range to accommodate the ability for men to tailor themselves a winter and a summer wardrobe. One for both you exclaim! Yes. One for both. There is quite a simple reason - your comfort.

A summer suit best tends to be a lighter weight fabric in vibrant navy, light charcoal and grey. While winter suits are best suited for the heavier weights in dark charcoals, midnight navy and blacks. Common winter suit patterns include herringbone, Houndstooth and woven Glenplaid's. All patterns that hark back and conjure up images of traditional British suiting.

The Winter Suit Cut

Alongside a difference in suit fabrics, a winter suit can benefit from differences in the cut and construction. These relate to added structure to the suit and hence, warmth. The two main changes I apply to my winter suits include, 'normal' shoulders (slight padding) and full lining, as opposed to 'natural' and half or less lining for my summer suits. I will also generally add a centimeter or so extra to my arm width and torso, this allows a more comfortable fit if you add a vest layer or v-neck jumper underneath.

Other changes I apply include peak lapels, a ticket pocket and slanted flap pockets. These design features result in a formal winter feel.

Four Winter Fabrics

Fabric 76

290 g/m super 120's 100% wool | $589

Fabric 76 is a beautiful dark charcoal with a distinct herringbone pattern that will create a spot on winter suit perfect to layer a navy v-neck over a crisp white shirt and navy woolen tie.

Fabric 64

230g/m super 120's 100% wool | $653

Fabric 64 is a superb medium grey/charcoal with a fine Houndstooth pattern. This fabric is used in our Charcoal Houndstooth (ADD LINK) blazer. This blazer can be paired over navy trousers or carried out in a full suit. The Houndstooth is a distinct pattern, which will make a unique suit for this winter.

Fabric 81

265g/m super 120's 100% wool | $589

Fabric 81 is a brilliant dark charcoal with a subtle texture woven into the fabric giving a distinct winter feel. It will pair perfectly with a vest or simple V-neck jumper for added warmth.

Fabric 50

205g/m super 120's 100% wool

One of my favourite fabrics in the InStitchu line up, this super 120's wool fabric has a distinct Glenplaid pattern woven into the fabric and a pale light blue windowpane pattern overlaid. It is a truly distinct and dapper fabric, ideal for a blazer or full suit.
