The Essential Every Man Should Own: The Navy Suit

Written by Igee Okafor | Oct 31, 2017 2:12:07 AM

The navy suit is the most long established, and classic suit any man can own. The reasons are significant - the color flatters an extensive variety of shirt, and tie mixtures for formal and casual occasions. The versatility of the navy suit is irreplaceable.

When selecting your signature navy suit, keep in mind that your choice will probably be worn more than any other suit in your closet. Therefore, it is important to opt for a fabric option with a bit of luster on the surface. A lightly constructed wool fabric is a popular option. As it pertains to the variety of navy shade options, darker choices like the you see in the featured photos above are great - for more relaxed and ceremonial events .

You'll notice the two suits showcased above are designed and styled differently. It's only a matter of preference especially since they're so similar. The two styles are first rate products to own and both serve as a canvas for an array of combinations.

Blake Scott (left) has on a navy suit with patch pockets, standard notch lapels and pant cuffs. The addition of the very dashing club collar shirt is a good way to stand out. The inclusion of the light toned waistcoat, and the pouch adds a more playful and stylish touch to the ensemble. Giving off an informal ease without crew length socks, the brown suede penny loafers complete the classic look.

On the more traditionalist side of the two styles, I have on narrow notched lapels, pen pockets with flaps, and pant cuffs. Maximizing detail with the sweater featured over the shoulder against the striped tie, and shirt is a bold approach. Some will hate it, some will love it. All in all, there are a mixture of classic staples that create a personal style statement.

The perfect setup towards successfully styling the navy suit lies within pristine tailoring. Having an unblemished fit is an absolute must.
