As 2017 winds down, we're approaching that slow and steady transition between Fall and Winter. Here we've got some direction to help you stay ahead of the game right through to 2018.
The upcoming wave of Fall/Winter Fashion is shaping up to reflect a more reserved, English-style aesthetic. Gone are the bright peacock hues of blue we’ve been seeing in men’s suiting, as a decidedly reserved palette of grays slowly emerges.
No doubt a response to the cooler weather, and perhaps partly a response to the conservative political climate, but it appears that everything old is new again, as super-skinny suits disappear to be replaced with a more comfortable, slim form.
In keeping with this classic direction, expect longer jacket lengths (no more butt-freezers) and pant lengths in the coming months.
We’ll be welcoming the new year with a myriad of grays, ranging from soft silver, right through to charcoal and slate, approaching black. Also expect to see more adventurous men looking towards richer shades of forest green and brown.
As the weather turns colder and Fall slips into Winter, we’ll see the drift away from Italian suiting, to a more English style, characterised by sumptuous flannel fabrics, cuffed trousers, and side tabs.

And it won’t be all solid colours; we are already seeing a move towards checks, such as Glen plaid and houndstooth woven into heavier fabrics, especially in corporate-wear.
We caught up with Luc Weisman, founder of men’s fashion blog, D’Marge and asked him about these latest trends.
“I’m seeing plaids and checks coming through strongly, not only in suiting, but also in casual shirting,” says Weisman. “And yes, side-tabs on trousers are an absolute must-have; belts are out.”
Weisman is a big fan of heavier fabrics, especially tweed. “It’s the official fabric of the English gentleman,” he says. “And you no longer need a hunting rifle to enjoy it.”
He says it’s important to get the balance right, so you don’t overheat. “Tweed and flannel are great for braving a NYC winter, but they might be overkill somewhere warmer such as LA.”
“I think we’ll also be seeing the return of the turtle neck underneath a suit. It provides a really cool alternative to the shirt and tie.”
